Also known as the Australian Cattle Dog or Australian Cattle Dog, it is a breed that has incredible skills for training, herding and physical exercise. They are considered one of the most intelligent dog breeds, so they often require stimulation or otherwise become bored. Its great physical needs, mental stimulation and education make it practically exclusive for people experienced in owning dogs.

An excellent companion, the Australian Shepherd or “aussie”, is very friendly and loves to play. They will always carry the puppy they were inside. They are intelligent, always eager to please and seem to intuit what is expected of them.

They are hard-working and stand out in a home where their intelligence and energy are put to good use. They don’t know the meaning of being lazy, so they need a lot of exercise to keep themselves busy. If they don’t have any tasks to do, they may make them up – surrounding children or other animals, chasing cars, or destroying the house.

Australian Shepherds are incredible as herding dogs, but they are also excellent in competitive canine sports such as agility or flyball and are also a perfect breed to perform jobs as guide dogs or rescue and rescue dogs. They are aggressive when working with livestock, but gentle with humans. They can be protective of their home and family, but distrustful of strangers. They tend to bark if they hear or see something suspicious, which makes them good guard dogs.

Their bright and loving personality makes this breed perfect as family dogs (just be sure to teach them not to go around children), or for someone with an active lifestyle.

• Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), also known as Choroidal Hypoplasia (CH-Choroidal Hypoplasia), which is inherited as an autosomal recessive disease. The retina gets its blood supply and nutrients from the choroid. In affected dogs, this layer of tissue under the retina does not develop properly and is thinner than normal. Predicting the severity of an affected puppy is difficult as it can vary greatly, even between affected puppies in the same litter. Severely affected dogs may experience vision loss and retinal detachment.
• PRA-prcd, which is inherited as an autosomal recessive disease. Degeneration of both rod and cone photoreceptor cells of the retina of PRA-prcd affected dogs usually occurs 3 to 5 years of age or later.
